RELIGIOUS & CULTURAL TREASURES OF ITALY

MAY 6-17, 2006:
ROME & THE VATICAN, ASSISI, FLORENCE, VENICE
HOSTED BY FATHER AIDAN McALEENAN

WELCOME to Religious and Cultural Treasures of Italy! We are honored to have arranged this special discovery tour of some of the most important heirlooms of Christian religion and Italian culture. We will have plenty of time to explore the Vatican and Rome in great depth, and we even hope to obtain a private audience with the Holy Father, although this is not guaranteed. Our hotel in Rome is a real treat -- right next to St. Peter's Square. A visit to St. Francis' Assisi is a moving experience for the believer, and the unique mystique of immortal Florence, as well as Venice and Padua, will remain unforgettably imprinted in every heart.

YOUR HOST: Fr. Aidan McAleenan, Associate Pastor at Christ the King Church in Pleasant Hill, CA, was ordained on Friday, June 3, 2005 as a priest of the Diocese of Oakland by Bishop John Cummins in his home parish in Ireland. His journey to the priesthood has taken a lengthy path. At 19 he joined the Redemptorist Order to study philosophy and history at the University of Galway followed by two years of theological study in Dublin. After that he left the Redemptorists and came to the U.S. as an exchange student. His first work was in grounds maintenance, construction and as a special education teacher. In 1988 he became administrator of a new hospice with Catholic Charities of San Francisco; he oversaw the operation of another facility in the Western Addition for five years and then became administrator of a complex for families in the Tenderloin. After that he served as supervisor of ten facilities sponsored by Mercy Housing. In January 2001 he enrolled at St. Patrick's Seminary as a student for priesthood in the Diocese of Oakland; his pastoral year of field work was done nearby at St. Bonaventure's Parish in Concord.
